Here are some frequently asked questions about my music photography services, which should answer most of your queries. However, if you still have a burning question then feel free to get in touch and I will be glad to answer!
How much does a shoot with you cost?
A promo shoot costs £50, as does a live shoot. However, you can save yourself some money if you book the two together, full details are on the prices page.
Where can I see examples of your work?
There’s plenty all over this site…for my best promo shots check my promos portfolio, for my top live shots head to my live portfolio and for my most recent snaps be sure to stop by the blog – and leave me a comment if you do!
Have you shot any big name bands?
Well I suppose it depends who people class as a big name…the ones that tend to grab most people’s attentions are Metallica, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Jay-Z, Paramore, Black Eyed Peas, ZZ Top, Judas Priest, A Day to Remember, Velvet Revolver, The Specials, Papa Roach, Motley Crue, The Saturdays, Korn, Bloc Party, Ellie Goulding and Biffy Clyro. if you keep checking the blog or follow me on Twitter then you’ll stay up to date with who I’m shooting.
Will you use images of my band at all if we do a shoot with you?
Unless you really don’t want me to, I will post them on my blog and pack it full of links to your website. They will also probably go on my Facebook page and they may even make it into one of my galleries. This is generally a good thing – someone may follow a link from me and end up being a new fan!
How can I find out if you’re available?
Well, there’s a number of ways. You can tweet me, hit me on Facebook, call me on (+44)7812 007338 or send me a good old email – my address is hello[at]davemussonphoto[dot]com or you can let technology do the hard work and use the contact form.
How long would a promo shoot last?
Generally speaking, they last around 1-2 hours.
How many pictures would I end up with after a session with you?
It does vary from session to session, but a rough guide would be anything from 30-60 images, which will include colour, black and white, landscape, portrait, full band and individual shots.
What happens with the copyright of the images from a shoot with you?
If you book me for a shoot we enter into a joint copyright agreement whereby you can use the images as you want to, but I also retain copyright to use them on here and perhaps in promotional materials.
Can I pick my own location for a shoot or do you choose for me?
You can absolutely suggest a location if you have somewhere in mind. Equally, I’m happy to suggest a location or even go scouting for one!
Do you pick what effects you put on the images or can we suggest ideas to you?
If you have a particular look you want to go for then I’m more than happy to have a go. Otherwise, I will apply whatever I feel to be the most appropriate post-processing techniques in Photoshop to best suit the image.
Do I have to credit you when we use your images?
No, not if you don’t want to. It would be nice, obviously, if you could pop a link to my website when you post your images online or credit me with my name if you use them in your CD, but if you don’t want to then that’s fine.
Someone in the band knows a bit of Photoshop, can we further edit your images once you give them to us?
No – not unless you put a note on those images explaining exactly what changes have been made so people viewing the images don’t assume it to be my work. And I’d still much rather you didn’t.
